More than 150 years have passed since Josiah Gates and his contemporaries settled in Manatee County and yet the area remains much the same as it was way back then. Our sun-bleached beaches are still carressed by balmy breezes and aquamarine waves continue to ebb and flow along the shores of our mainland and barrier islands.

And the mild-mannered manatee for which our county was named still calls our area home, thriving in our sea grass-lined waterways and proteced everymore by state statute!
